2021-2022 Collegiate Advisory Board

Hiba Alnajjar | Co-Chair

My name is Hiba Alnajjar and I am a 2nd year at UCLA, majoring in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology. Hearing of Team HBV’s outreach and fundraising efforts in 2019, I was empowered to join UCLA’s chapter and have sought out opportunities to further strengthen the JoinJade movement ever since! Team HBV’s holistic approach to health advocacy is what especially stood out to me, as I am passionate about addressing the role of cultural and interpersonal influences on disease. Serving as Regional Advisor last year gave me a chance to foster a strong sense of community and collaboration among chapters. As Co-Chair, I aspire to uplift those affected by hepatitis B and devise creative solutions to promote education and solidarity amidst stigma, both locally and internationally.

Ryan Park | Co-Chair

Aloha! My name is Ryan, and I am a sophomore studying Biomedical Computation at Stanford. In Team HBV, I have found an extremely warm and welcoming community that works towards addressing many of the same issues that I am passionate about. Born and raised in Hawaii, I am devoted to raising Hep B awareness in the Asian and Pacific Islander communities that are so disproportionately affected. After serving as last year’s Outreach Advisor, I will continue striving to incorporate the brilliant ideas from all of our chapters and community members to make ABoard as inclusive and accessible as we can.

Helen Ng | Regional Advisor

My name is Helen Ng and I am a fourth-year student majoring in psychobiology at UCLA. I joined the Team HBV UCLA chapter as a sophomore after hearing about the organization’s mission of fighting Hepatitis B at my school’s activities fair. I became further involved during my junior year as VP of Administration of the UCLA chapter, and as a member of the Team HBV National Collegiate Advisory Board’s Social Media Committee, where I developed infographics about Hepatitis B and liver health, and coordinated their translation into multiple languages to make health information more accessible to different populations. I am currently the President of the UCLA chapter and Regional Advisor of the Advisory Board.

Catherine Xie | Regional Advisor

Hi! My name is Catherine Xie and I am currently a Junior at UCLA pursuing a degree in Biochemistry. I went to the first Team HBV at UCLA meeting because I felt the need to understand more about Hepatitis B since I had family members living with HBV. I stayed because of the friends and community I found in the organization. I really connected in particular with Team HBV’s educational outreach. Fortunately HBV was caught early on in my family, but I know that is not always the case and the stigma sometimes associated with disease and HBV in particular in the highest risk communities increase risk that HBV goes unnoticed. It’s my honor to be a regional advisor this year and communicate with chapters around America, ultimately contributing to greater HBV awareness globally.

Brian Do | Outreach Advisor

Hi everyone! My name is Brian and I currently serve as the Outreach Advisor of the National Collegiate Advisory Board at Team HBV. I am a third year student at UCSD majoring in General Biology with a Global Health minor where I also am the President of the UCSD Team HBV Chapter. As the outreach advisor, I am so excited to already be expanding Hepatitis Advocacy globally through the Vietnam Viral Hepatitis Alliance (V-VHA) and other nonprofit organizations that all work together to eradicate HBV.

Tiffany Chen| Public Relations Advisor

Hey everyone! My name is Tiffany Chen and I’m currently a fourth-year at UCLA, majoring in Physiological Science and minoring in Global Health. I first joined Team HBV during my second year in college, inspired by their mission in combating this health disparity, and I have been involved with Team HBV since. I’ve been the VP of Public Relations for the UCLA chapter since my third year, growing our social media platforms and managing our social media committee to produce educational and shareable content about Hepatitis B and health. Throughout my years with Team HBV and working with the community, I’ve learned so much about the importance of advocacy, education, and outreach, and I’m excited to learn more!

Vincent Siu | Recruitment and Training Advisor

Hello everyone! My name is Vincent Siu and I currently serve as the Training and Recruitment Director for 2021. I’m a Computational Biology at Washington University in St. Louis, and this is my fourth year with Team HBV, having served for the last two years on the Team HBV’s High School Advisory Board. I’ve always been interested in Asian health, having worked on a scientific journal regarding the subject and working as a part-time Mandarin and Cantonese interpreter during lockdown. This year, as the Training and Recruitment Director, I hope to found new chapters, bring new members into the community, and spread Team HBV’s mission farther throughout the nation and the world.

Warren Quan | Finance Director

Hi everyone! My name is Warren Quan, and I am a current undergraduate freshmen at Princeton University! As of right now, I am planning on majoring in computer science, but I am also considering Operations Research and Financial Engineering or a finance and entrepreneurship minor as well! I have been involved in Team HBV ever since joining my high school’s chapter and becoming vice president. I, then, furthered my contributions through joining multiple committees and the high school advisory board as a Web and Media Manager! Now, I aspire to contribute to the collegiate board as their financial advisor, using past experiences fundraising and organizing finances with other clubs to help continue the prosperity of this organization.

Harrison Chou | Newsletter Director

Hello! My name is Harrison Chou and I’m a sophomore at UCLA pursuing a double major in psychobiology and viola performance. I first got involved with Team HBV through attending the Team HBV Youth Leadership Conference at Stanford University in 2016, and was inspired to continue spreading awareness about hepatitis B. Since then, I have been actively involved in Team HBV and previously served as a committee head on the collegiate advisory board. As the head of the Newsletter Outreach Committee, my goal is to give updates on past and upcoming Team HBV events, as well as inform the public about hepatitis B related news. I hope to inspire and encourage everyone to continue spreading awareness about hepatitis B.

Jessica Chen | Social Media Director

I’m Jessica Chen, a current freshman at the University of the Pacific majoring in biology in the Pre-Dental 3+3 program and minoring in Business Management. After discovering Team HBV through my participation in YLC my sophomore year of high school. I was inspired to start a chapter at my high school and join the International & Newsletter Outreach Committees due to my passion for public health and community advocacy. My senior year, I served as the Events Coordinator of the High School Advisory Board and as an Assistant Team Leader at the YLC. The friendships, personal growth, and tangible community impact I’ve experienced because of Team HBV inspired me to continue my involvement in college. As co-Social Media Director, I hope that we can use our online platforms to continue educating and advocating for the destigmatization of hepatitis B.

Whitney Chan| Social Media Director

My name is Whitney, and I’m a first-year Human Biology & Society student at UCLA. This year, I’m the Co-Social Media Director for the Advisory Board, and in the past, I’ve served as a Team HBV Collegiate Social Media Committee and Finance Committee member, as well as a Team HBV High School Chapter Engagement Outreach Committee member and board member of my high school’s Join Jade club. Working with Team HBV has allowed me to further pursue my passion of combining human centered design and medicine to make healthcare more equitable, inclusive, and empathetic, especially for the Asian and Pacific Islander community. Working with the API community and Team HBV has taught me to appreciate the complexities and diversity of the communities we strive to serve, and I am thrilled to continue growing with this movement. Through our social media, I’m hoping to create accessible and user-centered resources for hepatitis B education, community outreach, and advocacy!
