Chris is a senior at Cornell University, studying general Biological Sciences and working as a laboratory assistant in an evolutionary ecology lab. He was previously the 2012-2013 Recruitment & Training Advisor. Having worked with Team HBV at Cornell since freshman year, where he served as the VP of Outreach and later as co-President, Chris joined the National Advisory Board in the hope of making a greater impact on Hepatitis B awareness and eradication. For the coming Fall, Chris is looking forward to his matriculation into medical school.

Sam Njie Jr. | Co-Chair

Sam is currently a junior at UC Berkeley studying Biochemistry and performing clinical research on Hepatitis B, C, and liver cancer at Stanford School of Medicine. He was previously the president of Team HBV at De Anza College and corporate outreach intern for the Asian Liver Center. After being raised in the Philippines, Sam saw the daunting prevalence of Hepatitis B in high-risk populations. This year, he hopes to address these issues with innovative ideas, a strong resolve for the cause, and a commitment to global awareness and social change. In his free time, Sam likes to play guitar and go hiking.

Gerry Zhang | ALC Liaison

Gerry is a Senior at UC Berkeley studying biology.  At Cal, he teaches the Team HBV Decal and works with the chapter to spread awarenessabout hepatitis B. Generally if not studying he can be found in the library quietly dreaming about the future when our lawmakers create a concrete plan to tackle hepatitis B. Otherwise, he enjoys reading the newspaper,  imagining himself as one of many squirrels and exploring his environment from the perspective of his little blue bicycle.

Honora Ip | Outreach & Media Advisor

Honora is currently a sophomore at Cornell University. She majoring in Human Biology, Health and Society. At Cornell, she is the co-president of B-Aware (aka Cornell’s Team HBV chapter), and an active chinese dancer of Illuminations Dance Troupe. She is also part of a freshmen weight study research team in the department of Nutritional Science. She has been volunteering for the Asian Liver Center since 9th grade, and has been dedicated to hepatitis B outreach work ever since. She previously worked as a member of the Jade Ribbon Youth Council, the resources chair of the High School Team HBV Advisory Board, and the president of Palo Alto High School’s Team HBV chapter.  

Sophia Li | Recruitment & Training Advisor

Sophia is a current junior majoring in Biological Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She joined MIT’s Team HBV as a freshman after learning about the preventability and lack of awareness about Hepatitis B in many communities worldwide. At MIT, Sophia was the former co-VP of Campus Outreach and co-President. In addition to her ongoing research projects in the Sinskey Laboratory on biofuel production in bacteria, Sophia interned at the National Taiwan University Hospital in the summer of 2013, where she worked on identifying genetic risk factors in chronic Hepatitis B patients. Sophia loves to watch baseball, paint, and read in her free time.

Eric is a junior majoring in biology and economics at Brown University. He joined Team HBV as a freshman after learning about the highly prevalent yet preventable nature of hepatitis B. At Brown, Eric served as VP of outreach and later as president of its Team HBV chapter. He is always interested in fun and challenging projects, whether at school or at his internships. He enjoys tennis, playing with his dog Ollie, and the pursuit of good food.
