On March 3 2012, Team HBV at De Anza held a public public event in front of Cupertino Library. An outreach booth was set up to give out free prizes such as TEAM HBV Bracelets, pins, candies, balloons, sticker tattoos, and most of all, free coupons for screening from the ALC clinic. They had 100 of the ALC surveys filled out, and gave out sticker tattoos to 90 children.
The highlight of the event was the freeze mob. Before they hosted the event, they contacted two newspaper reporters: one from De Anza College, and the other was from a Chinese newspaper company called World Journal specifically to reach out to the Chinese community. The reporters came to the freeze mob event and interviewed chapter members. The World Journal is the most popular newspaper targeted at mainland Chinese immigrants in the U.S. and Canada.
