San Jose State University’s New Chapter of Team HBV
As a new organization at SJSU, our goal is to educate campus and local communities about hepatitis B and liver cancer, and empower individuals to get themselves and their loved ones screened and vaccinated in a timely manner.
Did you know?
- 1 in 20 people in the world are chronically infected with HBV (350 million – 10x as many people who are living with HIV/AIDS!)
- Liver cancer is the 6th most common newly diagnosed cancer
- Survival rate of the disease is 3-5%
- Chronic HBV infection disproportionately affects the Asian and Pacific Islander community in the US (1 in 10 API Americans vs 1 in 1000 Caucasian Americans)
