For our second year, we decided to bring back one of our trademark events. The Chinese New Year Festival was held at a local middle school this year, and featured an even larger group of participants than last year’s event. We used our signature HBV Wheel (generously hand crafted by one of our members) to add an interactive component to the games, and children (and parents!) had to spin the wheel and answer a question correctly to win one of our prizes: custom printed fortune cookies or a red envelope with chocolate “coins” and fact cards. All in all, the event was a great success! Last year, we handed out HBV brochures and other awareness materials, as well as custom made fortune cookies and chocolate in a red envelope for Chinese New Year at a Chinese School event.

HBV Halloween Wheel (October 2014):

For our first outreach event, one of our team members volunteered to make us a large wooden wheel. We set the wheel in our school’s main hallway during lunch for the days leading up to Halloween, and let students spin it. Different numbers corresponded with the difficulty level of HBV questions we asked. If the student answered it correctly, they were rewarded with candy in celebration of Halloween!
