Cindy is a rising senior at Dublin High School and is ecstatic to be on the Board once again! She has been a part of the Join Jade campaign since 2013, when she attended her first YLC. Since then, she has gone back every year as an ATL and has worked closely with Team HBV. In addition to Team HBV, Cindy also plays cello for the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra (SFSYO) and works with HOSA at school. This year as the co-chair, she hopes to connect with the chapters and bring members together into a happy family 🙂 #joinjade

Kavya, a senior at Castilleja School in Palo Alto, is thrilled to be part of the Board. After learning about the prevalence of hepatitis B and liver cancer in our global community, she founded a Team HBV chapter at her school. Aside from promoting the Jade Ribbon Campaign, she’s really passionate about bridging the gender gap in STEM and is currently developing an iOS app that features leading women in STEM fields to inspire young girls. She’s a huge basketball aficionado (go Warriors!), loves to sing, and will watch episodes of Shark Tank for hours on end. This year, she hopes to bring the high school chapters closer together and implement innovative ways to advance our cause throughout the community. Iris Xing is a senior at Troy High School that is extremely excited to be working on the High School Advisory Board for a second year. Initially inspired by Arline Loh, a hepatitis B victim, she founded the first Team HBV at her high school and continued on to spread awareness in Chengdu and Nanchong, China. She also served as the Events Chair on the 2014-2015 HSB. In addition to Team HBV, she enjoys volunteering at a variety of different organizations. She loves traveling (especially to China) where the food is great and the people (those she knows) are amazing. Iris is looking forward to making Team HBV a more recognized club on the national and international level.

John Yang is a senior at Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose, and is very excited to be working with everyone on the High School Advisory Board this year! After attending the Stanford Youth Leadership Conference program hosted by Team HBV during his freshman year, he went on to found Team HBV at his school. In the past two years, John has presided over the Team HBV school club in addition to serving on the Bay Area Outreach Committee. At school, he’s a member of ASB and speech and debate. Outside the classroom, he enjoys volunteering and is a huge basketball aficionado. John is looking forward to the opportunity to collaborate with the rest of the HS Board to bring the Team HBV community closer together and introduce many innovative, fun, and new events for both current and future Team HBV members to enjoy.

Emily Lu is a junior at Maria Carrillo High School and is extremely excited to work with everyone on the High School Advisory Board this year! After learning about the detrimental effects of hepatitis B, she was inspired to raise awareness of it by founding the Team HBV chapter at her school during sophomore year. Not only is she deeply involved in Team HBV, she is also president of her school’s Academic Decathlon and Vice President of Math Club. Outside of school she is also involved in several volunteer organizations. In her free time, she enjoys listening to music, writing short stories, and dancing. She is looking forward to working on the High School Board this year in order to help Team HBV grow as an organization.

Katie Wong, a junior at Dougherty Valley High School, is enthusiastic about contributing through her role on the High School Advisory Board! After learning more about Hepatitis B and attending the Youth Leadership Conference in her freshmen summer, she has been actively involved in her school’s Team HBV chapter and outreach committee. Besides Team HBV, she also volunteers for several other non-profit organizations including eSTEAMed and CSF. In her recreational time, Katie enjoys reading about science, playing piano, violin, and tennis, and watching comedic shows. Katie looks forward to a great year of connecting with and uniting chapters to help increase awareness of hepatitis B!

Rena is a senior at Lynbrook High School in San Jose and is excited to be part of the Board this year. She has been part of Team HBV for three years thus far and is currently serving as an officer of the Lynbrook chapter for the second year. Aside from participating in Team HBV, Rena enjoys drawing, making YouTube videos, and learning about biology. In addition, she also loves volunteering, meeting new people, and organizing events. Rena looks forward to serving on the Board, and she is excited to bring the Team HBV chapters closer this year!

Matthew is a junior at Stanford Online High School, and is excited to take the responsibility of redesigning the TeamHBV website! He has been an ardent TeamHBV member for the past two years, undertaking responsibilities including news letter designer, chapter president, and member of the Outreach Committee. During weekends, he is an avid hiker and a tireless hackathon programmer. Matthew is looking forward to working with other TeamHBV members this year.
